Ghosts

Honestly, I really didn't know what pseudoscience was so I looked it up and wikipedia was kind enough to inform me and list examples and one of them was ghosts. I remember last year going out to a cemetery with friends with a disposable camera at 2 am to capture orbs because that meant the presence of ghosts. I still believe that's a bit of BS but it's a fascinating idea. I want to capture staged candid moments on a disposable camera and see if any ghosts or spirits appear on the film. Ghosts/spirits take the form of orbs, white glowing rods, dark shadow-like smears across the picture (or could be white fuzzy lines), or perhaps even a white almost transparent person (examples of some listed included). I really don't expect too much, but I want the feel of film so I'd rather not shoot digitally. I will probably have to photoshop the above mentioned ghost appearances after I've scanned the pictures, but it's worth a shot. The "candid" pictures I want to look like portraits at events and places that would be natural but in this case staged (so examples would be like tourist couple next to some monument, family reunion, backyard bbq). I'll have to get some sort of cemetery shot because really, I need to capture those orbs.

  1. if you have ANY questions at all on ghosts/energy- don't hesitate to ask :) the "orbs" you see in photos are usually dust, pollen, insects and hair. A true orb has no origin, is quick and has a mind of it's own, it moves inconsistently. But then again before digital, before even disposables, they didn't know that- I recommend using salt, flour, or just walking through a field of grass to stir up some 'orbage' for your photos :p

  2. I would also recommend a show title ghost hunters for research purposes. I do wonder about the incorporation of text or drawings on the plates, much like those on your examples.

  3. Are you wanting to capture evidences of the supernatural or are you wanting to use this as a vehicle for other means of storytelling?

  5. My idea is to capture the evidence of the spirits (even though it will probably turn out to be me photoshopping in the traces of ghosts and such) because I find it such a fascinating idea. A particular image that stands out to me is from 2nd grade when this kid brought in a picture he took of the sky on a family vacation and the light had blown-out/overexposed in the shape of an angel in the middle of the picture of a fairly cloudless day. I want to have pictures of bizarre things like that, not necessarily in the shapes of angels, but I think you get the idea.

  6. This is a great idea, and I wonder if you will make the spectral figures obvious or more subtle in the photos...the latter could pose a bit of a challenge to yourself and your viewers, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad idea..either way I'm really anxious to see how this one plays out. It doesn't sound very simple, so kudos :)
